About

Deadman Drop is a four-piece from Atlanta that treats a rock band like a sound-system. The guitars are tuned low and played like they owe somebody money; the vocals swing between a broken-hearted croon and a full-throat scream; and underneath all of it sits a dub engine — sub-bass, tape delay, and space — run live from a console at the back of the stage.

The name is the whole thesis: the drop as in the bass finally landing, and the drop as in the floor going out from under you. The band walked into a storage unit off Moreland Avenue carrying twenty years of notebooks — ravens, quiet disasters, long goodbyes — and re-cut the best of it low and loud. The result is King of the World: thirteen tracks that open with the crown and spend the next hour in free fall, all the way down to “Fare Thee Well” and “Division.”

“Imagine a post-hardcore band raised on King Tubby instead of Kerrang — every chorus detonates twice, once in your chest and once in the subwoofer.”
